NSSSA promotes the common interest of social studies supervisors in instruction, curriculum, materials, research, teacher training and social action. It encourages and assists in the development of social studies instruction. NSSSA extends it services and assistance to supervisors at state and local levels.

##Who should join?

* NSSSA membership is open to NCSS members who have supervisory responsibility for social studies curriculum and instructional programs pre-kindergarten through grade twelve.
* Individuals with titles of director, department head or chairman, curriculum coordinator, consultant, supervisor, specialist or assistant principal.

##What are the benefits?

* Members receive a newsletter and a directory which is revised annually to include the Constitution, current address of all members and a position statement adopted by the organization.
* A full convention day at the NCSS Annual Conference is planned to include the latest trends and information designed to assist social studies supervisors in the rapidly changing educational setting.
* A network of social studies leaders who can provide support in a wide number of specialized areas.
